Your backyard can be a hotspot for pesky bugs, making it hard to enjoy your time outside. Mosquitoes are commonly found in yards, especially if they can find good breeding areas. Thankfully, there are things you can do to keep these pests away. Check out a few tips to help you get rid of mosquitoes in your yard.
1. Remove Breeding Sites

To keep mosquitoes out of your yard, you will need to remove potential breeding sites. These bugs breed and lay eggs in stagnant water. Small amounts of water can become a breeding area. Empty items that have collected water such as buckets, kids’ toys, and flower pots. Check your spigot and hose for leaks, and make sure your sprinklers are working correctly. If you have a swimming pool, you’ll want to make sure you keep it clean and test the water to make sure levels are where they need to be. Pet water bowls, kiddie pools, and other sources of water should be replaced regularly to prevent it from becoming stagnant and attractive to mosquitoes.
2. Take Care of Your Lawn & Vegetation

3. Take Steps to Avoid Mosquito Bites

When you head outdoors, there are things you can do to avoid a run-in with mosquitoes. Covering your skin and wearing lighter colors can help to prevent mosquito bites. Adding fans to your outdoor space can make it harder for mosquitoes to fly, causing them to go elsewhere. Consider adding mosquito screens to help keep mosquitoes away. Using a mosquito repellent can prevent mosquito bites too. Our Natural Insect Repellent is formulated using plant oils as the active ingredients and protects against mosquitoes, ticks, and flies. It’s safe for use around children and pets when used as directed.
4. Create a Mosquito Repellent Zone

Creating a mosquito repellent zone can help to protect your outdoor space. Plant-based insecticides not only kill pests, but they also have repellent properties. The plant essential oil vapors will repel mosquitoes, helping to protect the area. Our Mosquito Fogger will provide up to seven days of repellent zone residual protection. It works well to protect decks, patios, and other small outdoor gathering areas. You’ll want to spray surfaces and vegetation where mosquitoes are likely to be found that are close to your seating area.
Our ‘Skeet-R-Shield Mosquito Repellent Canister can also create a repellent zone. The granules contain plant oils that will help to repel mosquitoes. It is ideal for use near patios, decks, pool areas, and other outdoor seating areas. To activate, simply remove the lid from the canister and place it on a table or similar surface near where people are gathering. About every three hours during use, you’ll want to put the lid back on and shake the canister.
5. Treat Your Yard

To get rid of a mosquito infestation, you can treat your yard with an insecticide spray. Our plant-based Mosquito & Tick Killer kills mosquitoes and provides residual repellency protection. It attaches to your garden hose and will effectively treat up to 5,000 sq ft. You’ll want to spray your lawn and vegetation, ensuring the spray reaches deep into the vegetation where mosquitoes harbor. Apply at a rate of 500–600 sq ft per minute. To maximize treatment effects and minimize any potential for burning sensitive plants, it’s best to apply at dusk. You can reapply the spray every two weeks or as needed.
